Online Learning Services’ Fall Workshop Schedule

Professional Learning Community Evolving:

For the past two summers, Online Learning Services hosted a series of gatherings to explore and discuss issues and opportunities around online teaching and learning. One takeaway, among many, was that faculty who seek to improve their online or hybrid pedagogy, and to better understand the motivations of students who seek online classes, want more frequent and ongoing dialog on focused topics. We in OLS, listened carefully and have planned a series of Friday brown bags that will continue throughout the academic year. Here are the fall dates:

  • 9/20, 11am-noon: Using Canvas to Support Face-to-Face Instruction – Best practices for supporting student success
  • 10/25, 11am-noon: Using Quality Indicators to Self-Reflect on Your Online Pedagogy – Using widely-recognized quality standards for online teaching, collectively review an online course and discuss the good, the bad, and ugly
  • 11/8, 2-4pm: Engagement Strategies – Proven techniques to facilitate active learning
  • 11/22, 10am-noon: Social Learning Online – A conversation about “why” social learning matters followed by a short training on “how” to leverage VoiceThread for online social engagement
